Employable Skills Training for Unemployed Youth in Tamil Nadu

India is the second largest workforce in the world.  India will be having 18% of the world’s skilled manpower by 2020.  Over 65% of our youth in India are in the working age group.  Unfortunately, we just have 2.3% of this population that has undergone a skills training.

With rapid growth of the Indian economy, the manufacturing and service industry is in need of skilled workforce.  While a large number of vacancies exist in the industry, unemployment is also gathering momentum, owing to the demand versus supply gaps.  There is a huge deficit in skilled-workforce across industries including health-care, automobiles, agriculture, Banking, Construction, Hospitality, IT and Textile.

In view of the above, the Indian Central Government and the Tamil Nadu State Government have setup skill-development infrastructure ( training providers, curriculum, certifications, incentives), with a vision transform the state into skill hub by skilling the youth, and to enhance their employability to match the expectations of the Industry; there by attracting large investments to our State.
The Skill India program, promoted by Government of India has a target to train 30 crores youth by 2022.  The Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, promoted by Government of Tamil Nadu has a target to train 2 crores youth by 2023.
